About:

Kickball for Kaepernick is a new activist group showing solidarity for Colin Kaepernick, who garnered national attention after continuously not standing during the United States National Anthem before NFL games. The football player does not stand for the National Anthem because of the constant oppression of people of color in the United States.

There is no age requirement, allowing children and adults to come together to play kickball, make arts and crafts and most importantly, discuss their reasons for boycotting the NFL.

“We want the conversation to be lead by the kids,” said Joel Sronce, the founder of Kickball for Kaepernick, who is hoping to, “Bring people together to do this boycott very publicly.”

The group meets every Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at Center City Park in downtown Greensboro. Kickball for Kaepernick appreciates attendance by those interested in playing in the game as well as those that are there to show their support for Kaepernick’s stance.

“If you are also feeling like you want to take a stance against the NFL you can come down and be with people, and try to plug into local activism,” Sronce said.

Continual support is necessary for this event. “We would love to have this be a big event, and really turn some heads; and know that there is a big community in Greensboro who is not supporting the NFL,” Sronce said.

In the winter months, Kickball for Kaepernick is replaced by Kids Kollective. This group has the same goals, but with my weather appropriate fun. During the same time and day, people will meet at Geeksboro to play board games.
