Mission Statement: To advocate for fair, safe, and affordable housing for low and moderate income people and those with special needs.

About:

GHC partners with Collaborative Cottage Grove, which identifies substandard living arrangements and advocates for housing justice in the Cottage Grove community. The 2010 census recorded 20 percent of households in the community live in poverty, with 40 percent of the residents being foreign born.

“We are working together for everyone to have a fair chance to have a healthy community, safe community and an active community,” said Josie Williams, GHC’s Project Team Coordinator.

Accomplishments in the Cottage Grove community are continuously growing.

In 2017, the collaborative won the Build Health Challenge grant, solidifying the group as one of 19 winners out of 127 applicants across the United States. The grant is given to communities suffering from extreme health disparities, such as those living in substandard housing in Cottage Grove.

In 2016, the Mustard Seed Community Health Center opened, now delivering primary and behavioral healthcare for residents in the community or those without health coverage, living at or below 200 percent of Guilford County’s federal poverty line.

The GHC performs best with the assistance of community advocates, especially those living in Cottage Grove.

“When residents stand up for themselves, residents are heard,” said Brett Byerly, the Executive Director of GHC.
